Governor Siminalayi Fubara argues that a recent court judgment undermines the legitimate governance of Rivers State. The ruling, delivered by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, raises questions about the legality of the 2024 budget presented to a faction of the state House of Assembly loyal to Fubara. The court deemed this action a constitutional violation, as it circumvented the complete legislative approval process. Consequently, the court has restricted Fubara and certain banks from accessing funds from the Consolidated Revenue and Federation Account until the budget is re-presented to the assembly faction led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, backed by Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike. Join us as we discuss these developments with Barrister Tamuno Williams, a legal practitioner and former Okrika Local Government Council executive chairman.
